ARTIST STATEMENT

I have been working in ceramics for a long while and love just about everything about working with clay.  Like most, I began producing functional ceramics. Over time the aesthetics of the form, became more important.  I find the translucence and lightness of porcelain makes it my preferred clay body. I began firing Western Raku in 2001; there is a lot of fun and really a mystery as work comes out of a raku kiln. You just don’t know for sure what will happen! This keeps it from being too repetitive and creates joy, surprise and pleasure in the process. Qualities I really want in my art!

My work has taken a few interesting twists and turns the last few years. I have been producing more and more pieces and have been involved in a number of shows as I refine my approach to ceramic sculpture.
